Message from the Club President (early Spring 2020)

Updated: May 23, 2021

Greetings Yale FSC families, skaters and friends,

We hope that you are all healthy and safe during this period of uncertainty and concern in our country and around the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has swept through the nation and disrupted daily life. And, the Yale Figure Skating Club closed our skating season two weeks early.

The Board of Directors have met (thanks to Zoom video meetings) to plan for refunds to skaters who missed ice time because of our shortened season.

The following refunds are forthcoming to:

  • Skaters who signed up and paid for rehearsals and the Spring Show

  • Soloists who signed up and paid for the Spring Show

  • Skaters who signed up and paid for the last dance class which was cancelled

  • Skaters who have signed up and paid for ice time that was cancelled

We are working to get this refunds out to you as soon as possible.

Although the skating season has ended, the work of your Board of Directors will continue through the spring and summer in an effort to make decisions about our future programming. As you know, Yale University and the Athletic Department have announced significant increases in ice fees for Ingalls Rink beginning for our Club, in the fall of 2020. The Board is currently exploring options that will allow us to continue offering programming next season at reasonable cost to our members. Meanwhile, we shall continue to offer membership renewals; current memberships expire at the end of June.

The finances of the Yale Figure Skating Club are not good. We have experienced a significant loss this year as the result of our delayed communications last September, lower membership, lower session fees, and the shortened season. And so, we are asking for donations to help support the planning and preparation for continued programming. Please consider a donation by using the form attached below. Any amount you are able to give would be most appreciated.

We look forward to further communications with our membership regarding the future of the Yale Figure Skating Club. Please do not hesitate to check our website at yalefsc.org. Other excellent information regarding COVID-19 is available at yaledailynews.com and news.yale.edu.

Yours,

Nancy Brittingham, President Yale Figure Skating Club, Inc.
